CV for attachment in Kenya: guide and free student template
Updated 16 October 2026
If you're a student looking for industrial attachment or an internship, you probably think you have nothing to put on a CV. You have more than you think. Your course, class projects, holiday jobs, clubs and volunteering all show an employer you can turn up, learn and get things done.
Put education first
Lead with your course, institution, year of study and expected completion date, e.g. Diploma in Accounting (2nd year), Machakos University, expected 2027. Then your KCSE mean grade. Add relevant units if they fit the attachment: Financial Accounting I and II, Cost Accounting, Computerised Accounting.
Say exactly what you're looking for
Your headline and profile should name the attachment and when you're available. Organisations plan attachment places months ahead, and HR needs to know your dates.
| Weak | Strong |
|---|---|
| A young, energetic and hardworking student seeking an opportunity to grow. | Second-year Diploma in Accounting student, comfortable with Excel and basic bookkeeping. Looking for a 3-month industrial attachment in finance or accounts from May 2027. |
Turn what you've done into experience
Holiday jobs, the family shop, being chama or class treasurer, a church role, a class project: write each one like a job, with a title, where, when, and 1 to 3 points that start with an action word.
| Weak | Strong |
|---|---|
| Helped in my parents' shop during holidays. | Served customers and recorded about 40 cash and M-Pesa sales a day at a family hardware shop (Dec 2024 – Mar 2025). |
| Member of the savings group. | Treasurer: keep contribution and loan records for 20 members in Excel and reconcile the group M-Pesa account every month. |
| Did a project in second year. | Built an Excel budget and stock tracker for a local shop, now used for its weekly orders. |
After your attachment
Add it straight away, at the top of your experience, titled clearly: Accounts Assistant (Industrial attachment), Kenya Power, Nairobi, May – Aug 2025. Then 3 points with numbers where you can:
- Reconciled 40+ supplier invoices a week.
- Entered customer records into the billing system with no errors flagged by the supervisor.
- Prepared a weekly cash report for the finance supervisor.
Referees for students
Three is the standard. A lecturer who teaches you, your attachment supervisor once you've done one, and a former teacher or someone you've done holiday work for. Ask them first. Avoid relatives.
Keep it to one page
One clean page is perfect at this stage. Leave out KCPE, your ID number and date of birth, and hobbies that don't say anything ("reading, travelling"). If a hobby shows a skill ("captain of the college football team"), keep it.
