Cashier CV sample (Kenya): free download and how to write yours
Updated 16 October 2026
Supermarkets, shops, pharmacies and petrol stations in Kenya hire cashiers all year. They get a lot of CVs, and most say the same thing: "handled cash, served customers". This page shows a full cashier CV that stands out, explains why each part works, and lets you download it free as a starting point. Jump to the sample.
What cashier employers check first
- Can they trust you with money? Show the amounts you handled and your record at cash-up.
- Can you work fast without mistakes? Customers per day, busy periods, how you handled queues.
- Do you know the systems? POS tills, M-Pesa, card machines, refunds, fake note checks.
- Can they reach you and your referees? A 10-digit phone number and three referees with phone numbers.
Work points written for cashier jobs
Copy the shape, not the numbers. Use your own real figures.
- Served about [120] customers a day at the main till, including month-end rush hours.
- Handled cash, M-Pesa and card payments worth around KES [150,000] a day with no shortages on [98]% of shifts.
- Trained [3] new cashiers on the till system, refunds and end-of-day cash-up.
- Spotted and reported [2] fake notes in one month using the shop's note checks.
- Kept the queue moving during promotions by opening a second till and calling a supervisor early.
- Handled refunds and exchanges following shop policy, with no disputes escalated to the manager.
Skills to list
Cash handling, M-Pesa and card payments, POS till systems, customer care, stock taking, fake note checks, Kiswahili and English. If you've used a specific system (e.g. a named POS), name it.
If you haven't been a cashier yet
Any job where you handled money counts: M-Pesa agent, the family duka, a market stall, being chama treasurer. Write what you did with the money: "Balanced cash and float at the end of each day for an M-Pesa shop with about 60 transactions a day."
Common mistakes
- Putting your ID number or date of birth on the CV. Employers ask for these after hiring.
- A profile that only says "honest and hardworking". Show it with a number instead.
- No dates, or year-only dates. Use month and year.
- Only two referees, or "available on request". Three, with phone numbers.
